Final Portfolio: The Different Faces of Life

For this portfolio, I decided to photograph the faces of people in my family that are in different stages of life and simultaneously photograph the different stages of the life of a flower.  The people that I photographed range from a pregnant stomach (roughly 29 weeks) to my grandfather who is in his early 70s.  I thought it was interesting how we all start with such innocent and fresh faces and with time, they begin to look aged.

Re-Do Assignment (Portraits)

Portrait of Someone I Don't Know: I took this in the strip district and as soon as I saw this man and his son I knew I could get a good picture.  I like that the colors are so bright in this photo but the man and his son are still the main focus.  I also like that the older man is smiling but his son has a very serious face.
Self-Portrait: This picture really represents me, since I am from Philly, I am a huge Flyers fan, so any chance I can wear my jersey, I will.  I decided to take a picture of myself in my jersey in front of the Penguins arena because it shows that I will wear my jersey anywhere, even in a rivals city.  I actually got yelled at from a man on the street while taking these pictures, but that still didn't stop me! I used some effects in light room to make the orange on my jersey stand out a little more too.

Portrait of Someone I Know: This is a picture of my roomate and her boyfriend. We were walking back to our car after we were done in the strip district and the way that the city was in the background seemed like an interesting place to take their picture.  At this point my camera was about to die so I took this picture before they were ready/smiling and I think it turned out better than the one that they're smiling in.  I like how they are the main focus of the picture despite the fact that there is so much in the background.

Portrait Assignment

This is my portrait of a stranger, I photographed a bartender at a club in his natural environment and I thought this picture turned out good, especially after I motion blurred his surroundings while keeping his body clear.

This is my favorite portrait from the assignment, I photographed my sister when I went home for the weekend. I incorporated both major aspects of her life, she loves sports (soccer and softball) and when she is not playing sports she is very girly and always wearing cute outfits.  I like the contrast in this photo because of all the greens and then her body sticks out and attention is drawn right to her.

This is my self portrait taken in my apartment before getting ready to go out one night, I like the effects I used in this picture because I wanted to use black and white but when I used that effect on the whole photo it washed me out, so I used the magnetic lasso tool in photoshop to inverse selection and make the background black and white so I can stick out a little more.

Landscape Assignment

I thought this building was interesting to photograph, I never noticed this building until I was doing this assignment.

I like how the train tracks seem to go on for miles, and also how the bridge in the background looks.
I thought this might be an interesting picture because it is not a typical landscape with pile of torn down building. I also like the fire hydrant in the center of the photo.
I really like the symmetry of the tunnels as well as the car going in and the other coming out of the tunnel.
